A strong wine-growing tradition!
Serbia has a strong wine-growing tradition, its vineyard extends over more than 70 000 hectares with a mosaic of wine-growing terroirs. The grape varieties grown are both indigenous (Krstač, Župljanka, Smederevka for white wines and Vranac, Prokupac, Kratošija for red wines…) and imported (Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon…). The production of white wines, more than 60%, is higher than the production of red wines. White and rosé wines are mainly produced in the Vojvodina plain (northern Serbia) and red wines are mainly produced in southern Serbia.
Tonković Winery is distinguished by its concern to restore all these letters of nobility to the Kadarka grape variety. Wine growing region located in the north of Serbia since the end of the 17th century. Mr Tonković has succeeded, with the help of experts from the Spanish Rioja, in producing a wine of great finesse, a revelation of the endemic “Kadarka” grape variety and the specificities of this magnificent region.
